'They are the new board members which is very good,” says Bill. 'It's also good that a board should reflect the community. For the last two years we have had no women, we have had six middle-aged older men. Now we have two outstanding younger women.

'It's a very positive move for TECT, we don't determine that, the consumers do. The TECT consumers decided they needed some smart younger women on the board and that's who got on.”

Bill is also pleased at the turnout, which at more than 30 per cent he says is high when it is not considered an important election.

'For me it's a wonderful mandate for the trustees to continue the work that they are doing. Obviously (I'm) very happy with the result. It's a lovely job, it's like being Santa Claus.

'What I thought was good is when I stood four years ago there were 23 candidates and it became ridiculous. This time there were eleven, which is getting better.

'I think there was a higher calibre of candidates this time. With a couple of exceptions, if I got on I was going to be very happy with whoever the other two were. Some very good people missed out.”

Tauranga accountant Amanda and Blink PR's Natalie will replace trustees Bruce Cronin and Ken Collings who have retired at this election.

'I'm grateful to have been elected onto this important trust for our region,” says Natalie.

'It will be a privilege to serve on TECT and be part of its future direction.”

When contacted by SunLive, Amanda said she preferred not to comment on the results.

From the the returns given it is estimated the following support was received for the top lemons bearing in mind 70% of TECT consumers did not bother to vote - Holland got 68% of those who actually voted and could cast a vote for him but only 21% of those entitled to vote Sutcliffe got 37% and 11% and Bridges got 29% and 9%.Tells a bit of a tale doesn't it.
