A police spokesperson says the pre-planned search was carried out at about 2.30pm and the Armed Offenders Squad were involved simply as a precaution.

A reporter at the scene says one man was led away from the property by officers.
Armed police officers, AOS members and a police dog unit were all utilised during this afternoon's search.

A report has come in of an armed police presence in Merivale this afternoon.
A caller to the 0800 SUNLIVE news hotline says members of the Armed Offenders Squad have surrounded a Hampton Terrace address in the past 30 minutes.
A reporter at the scene says a cordon has now been established around the property and police were stopping vehicles from entering the area.

I don't blame our police force for entering certain parts of town whilst armed. We have quite well known "Gang" enclaves scattered around town and hopefully this is just the start of our "Law enforcement" agencies playing the game properly. I am sick and tired hearing our bleeding-heart liberal apologists bleating on about human rights and overly aggressive police tactics. Anyone would think that the scumbag law-breakers have MORE rights that those of us that abide by the laws of the land. Let's INVEST in first class weapons training and arm all the police officers in the country, support them in their job of protecting the vast majority of the country from an increasingly violent and aggressive scumbag minority group in our communities. After all that is what we pay taxes for, peace and freedom to go about our lawful business.

I have disagreed with your views at times BUT in this case, I couldn't agree with you more! Like you, I am fed up with the bleeding hearts that forget the ordinary law abiding folk and their right to be protected from the criminal elements of our society. Time to start a 'Not so PC' political party?
