Bay of Plenty Polytechnic is hosting the 2011 Bay of Plenty Coromandel regional finals of the Lion Foundation Young Enterprise Scheme’s Business Plan Presentation Awards tonight.

The Young Enterprise Trust is a not-for-profit organisation promoting an enterprising and financially literate culture among young people throughout New Zealand.

The Young Enterprise Scheme is a learning experience for young people, teachers and business people, in which senior secondary school students form a company, become directors, and develop products and services, which they then market and sell.

It is school-based and teaches skills in budgeting, planning, interpersonal relations, decision making, reporting, communications, risk management and teamwork.

Tonight, over 100 secondary school entrepreneurs and supporters, making up 21 registered companies, are presenting their business plans to a judging panel.

This panel is made up of business and community leaders from the Tauranga area.

The three high schools involved this year are: Otumoetai College, Tauranga Boys’ College, and Tauranga Girls’ College.
