Till found at Greerton Park

Police forensic experts are examining a till found discarded at Greerton Park in the vicinity of the Greerton Marist Rugby Club overnight.

While yet to be confirmed, police believe it's the till taken during the robbery of the Cameronian Dairy which saw two men enter the store and threaten the woman behind the counter with a hammer on Sunday afternoon.

Police believe the till from Sunday's robbery of the Cameronian Dairy may have been found at Greerton Park. File Photo.

The till was stolen and the pair drove off in a dark-coloured Nissan sedan, down 17th Avenue and up Clarke Street behind the hospital.

Police were called about the till last night. It's not yet confirmed that it is the till taken in the robbery, says detective sergeant Paul Barron.

Tauranga police still want to hear from anyone about who noticed vehicle movements about the Greerton Park between Sunday night and Monday night, and possibly during daylight hours.

At this stage there is no evidence to confirm a link between the robbery of the Cameronian Dairy and the 14th Avenue Dairy on Monday afternoon, where two men used a wheel brace to threaten the proprietor and take cash and cigarettes.

There is no available description of the vehicle the two men used in the 14th Avenue robbery.

'What is concerning is the pattern that's developing,” says Paul. 'It is high risk for these offenders, this type of offending.”

Aggravated robbery carries a sentence of up to 14 years in jail. As a violent crime two thirds of the sentence has to be served before the prisoner is permitted to apply for parole.

Anyone with information that could assist the investigation is asked to contact Tauranga Police on 07 5774300.

Alternatively information can be provided anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
