Tauranga dairy robbed by armed men

Police are looking for two men who robbed a Tauranga dairy armed with a hammer this evening.

The incident happened at 5.30pm on Cameron Rd. Police says the two men who were wearing masks and armed with a hammer walked into the dairy and stole the cashier's till.

A police statement says no one was injured during the robbery and a small amount of cash and tobacco were taken during the robbery.

The area was cordoned off and police are continuing their search for the masked duo.

I bet they made of with a gigantic sum of cash? Hopefully WHEN they get caught, they will be made to buy the shopkeeper a new till... and hopefully the judge will let the shopkeeper wield the hammer for a couple of minutes. I would recommend that shopkeepers screw the till down, or have a small cable from the till to the counter/wall.... so even if the goons grab the whole till, they cant remove it from the shop quickly. We must, of course, feel sorry for these thieves... they will have had hard lives and have 'issues' .... so it is not their fault [add sarcasm there] I hope the shopkeeper is not too traumatised and never got hurt.

I reckon it's the tobacco they're after...people already addicted, then govt hikes the tax ridiculously and they cant afford it. Just a thought...
