One person dead after police shooting

Police have shot a killed a person during a pre-planned search warrant carried out in Hamilton tonight.

The incident happen in an industrial area on Grasslands Place in Frankton just after 6pm.

Armed Offenders Squad and Criminal Investigation Branch members were in attendance at the time.

Two police officers stood armed with AR15 Bush Master guns at the edge of the cordoned off street where shots were fired Stuff reported.

Armed police directed traffic away from the street, where an armed offenders squad vehicle, fire trucks and several police cars were parked.

A Hamilton woman says she heard shots being fired in Grasslands Pl - an industrial area near Kahikatea Dr.

"I was at Hamilton House picking up my dogs, when police raided the place across the road," Paula Simmonds says.

"We thought we heard shots fired. It sounded like shots."

After that armed police swarmed the street. "A lot of armed police."

Police says investigations into the incident are ongoing and officers are working to establish details of exactly what happened.

The Independent Police Conduct Authority has been notified of the shooting, and the scene will be contained overnight.

Police will release further details about the fatal shooting at a media conference in Hamilton at 9.30am tomorrow morning.

Great. No doubt the situation warranted the attendance of the armed offenders squad and that being the case I have no problems with someone getting shot. The AOS wouldn't be knocking on my door because I am LAW-ABIDING.
