Fresh hopes for unsolved murder

Tasman Police are hopeful that tonight's screening of a television programme on the unsolved murder of Nelson man Kevin O'Loughlin will prompt someone who knows who was responsible for his killing to come forward.

O'Loughlin was found stabbed to death in the early hours of May 2, 1993 at the Hardy Street entrance to Montgomery Carpark.

Twenty three years on, Police are hopeful someone watching this week's programme may recall information that could prove critical to their inquiry.

Police urge them to come forward as this may assist in bringing closure for O'Loughlin's family.

The events surrounding his death will feature on Sensing Murder this evening (Thursday) on TV2 at 8.30pm.

Detective Inspector Paul Borrell said Police were very hopeful that with the passing of time, someone involved or with knowledge of those involved will have come to a point in their life where they feel compelled to do the right thing.

'Knowledge of a murder is a heavy weight for anyone to carry for 23 years and we are very hopeful that the publicity of this event will prompt someone to come forward with information that has not been shared with us previously.”

He said Police were keeping an open mind about the psychic element to the programme.

Detective Inspector Borrell said an 0800 number had been set up to receive calls and the incident would feature on the Nelson Police Facebook page.

Anyone with information related to Kevin O'Loughlin's murder should call Nelson Police on 0800 400 800, or Crimestoppers 0800 555 111.
