The MetService says watches have been issued for many places, but a warning is in force for Bay of Plenty.

'Up to 90mm of rain could accumulate here from noon till midnight Wednesday, with possible thundery downpours,” says a statement from the weather organisation.

'This may lead to slips and surface flooding and could make for hazardous driving conditions.”

'In the 12 hours from noon till midnight tomorrow, expect 70-90mm of rain to accumulate. Peak intensities of 15 to 25mm and more in thundery rain.

Tomorrow's forecast for Tauranga is rain developing, possibly heavy with northeast developing. Tomorrow's high is 16C with an overnight low of 10C, according to the MetService.

Western Bay of Plenty road policing manager Senior Sergeant Ian Campion is asking motorists to take extra care on the roads.

He asks people to drive to the conditions, slow down and be patient and where possible avoid travelling.
