Fine dining and fun a perfect recipe

Enjoying a long lunch with friends while listening to inspirational women speakers was the magic recipe for this year's Ladies Long Charity Lunch.

Event director Wendy Robertson says the event held at the ASB Arena on Friday was even more successful than last year with 785 women attending the lunch. Almost doubling last year's attendance record.

Although the final tally hadn't yet been counted Wendy was confident the money raised would hit the $70,000 mark. The money raised going to Te Aranui Youth Trust and Good Neighbour Trust.

'It was really enjoyable and all the women had heaps of fun, some great food and we had some fantastic speakers. Basically the ladies of the Western Bay open their wallets for two awesome charities.”

This year's speakers included former New Zealand Silver Ferns player Jenny May-Coffin, Chloe Wright and Teina Boyd.

Wendy says the feedback the Trust had received on the speakers was overwhelming.

Te Aranui Youth Trust works with youth offenders and police and also runs Blue Light events. Wendy says the money will go towards funding those initiatives.

Plans are already underway for next year's event with Friday's lunch proving the event, which is in its second year, just appears to be getting bigger and better.
