Coromandel and Bay weather watch

The Bay of Plenty and Coromandel are in for some more rough weather with the MetService issuing a severe weather watch for the two regions.

MetService's William Nepe says heavy rain is expected for the central North Island andUpper South Island today with northwest gales over much of the North Island tomorrow.

A deep low over the Tasman Sea is forecast to cross the upper South Island tonight, then move away to the southeast Monday morning, bringing periods of heavy rain to many parts of New Zealand says William.

Another deep low over the Tasman Sea is expected to move eastwards across the North Island on Monday, bringing a period of strong west to northwest winds, with severe gales possible for a time from Hawkes Bay and Taranaki northwards.

He says the watch is for the possibility of rainfall accumulations reaching warning criteria in the Eastern Bay of Plenty as well with periods of heavy northwest rain today until Monday morning and

thunderstorms possible at times.

William says the watch is also for the possibility of severe west to northwest gales in the Coromandel Peninsula and the Bay of Plenty during Monday morning and afternoon.

'People are advised to stay up to date with the latest forecasts in case parts of this Watch are upgraded to a Warning or further areas are added.”
