Learn how to cook 'Kasey and Karena style” at the Masterchef winners' first interactive demonstration masterclass at Rotorua's Stratosfare Restaurant on June 30.

With a focus on ‘casual entertaining at home', Kasey and Karena Bird will share their skills and secrets using locally grown and in season ingredients during the two-hour class.

Guests will have the opportunity to assist at different stages of the preparation, sample tasters from each meal and ask questions throughout, all while sipping on a glass of Volcanic Hills wine.

After a busy six months travelling and cooking across New Zealand, Kasey and Karena say returning to Stratosfare Restaurant 'almost feels like a homecoming”.

'Rotorua has always been a second home for us, so being at Stratosfare always feels a little bit more special because we have such strong ties to the Rotorua area.

'The cooking demonstration is going to be a fun night filled with laughs and surrounded by people who love food. We'll also be talking about what we have been up to over the past year and what our plans are going forward.

'To us, food isn't just about filling your stomach, it is also about bringing people together and making them happy - it's all for the love of food, family and friends.

'We don't want to spoil the surprise, but we'll be cooking some of our favourite dinner party dishes, and there will definitely be seafood involved.”

Skyline Rotorua general manager Bruce Thomasen says Skyline Rotorua has been working in partnership with Kasey and Karena since the $2 million renovation and launch of Stratosfare Restaurant in November 2014.

'It's really special to share Kasey and Karena's culinary journey. Last year, we hosted the official launch in Rotorua of their cookbook For The Love Of, which recently won the 2016, Gourmand World cookbook award for ‘Best TV Cookbook'.

'We approached the pair with the concept of hosting a more intimate and interactive cooking class at Stratosfare Restaurant, so people can experience Kasey and Karena cooking up close and personal.

'They have an infectious passion for all things food, and combined with their spirit of manaakitanga (hosting), the cooking demonstration is going to be a night to remember.”
