What’s On: Baywide rugby

Good morning Sunners, looking for something to do today? Then why not head down and support your local rugby club in the latest round of the Baywide competition.

There will be some great match ups this afternoon in the men's two premier divisions. While there are several great Western Bay teams in the competition.

In the premier one division it should be a great clash between Rangataua and Te Puna.

Rangataua will be on the hunt to get their first win on the board following a loss to Mount Maunganui and a draw to Rotoiti. While Te Puna has gone two from two over the two Marist sides, Greerton and Whakatane.

In today's match Te Puna will be looking to redeem themselves and upset the home favourites as Rangataua did to them in the first round. Rangataua coach Aramahou Ririnui says the team's approach into the game against Te Puna will be as per usual.

'Every game in the top eight competitions is going to be a tough one.” He says were ready and fired up for today's battle.

'Our focus for this match is to trust our systems on attack and defence. Te Puna have had two wins in the two games played thus far so they are on track to making the top four, however we will be concentrating on what we need to do to win on Saturday.”

Te Puna's coach Daniel Quate reflected on the last time the two teams met.

'We are really looking forward to this weekend's game; the last time we played three weeks ago is still very fresh in our minds when Rangataua managed to come away with the win at Maramatanga park.

We were really disappointed with that result and happy not to have to wait very long for another shot at them.”

The game is being played at Te Ariki Park, kick off at 2.45pm.

Meanwhile, in the second round of the Baywide Premier Two competition, Whakarewarewa will take on Arataki.

Whakarewarewa coach Kopae Irihei says his team is looking forward to the clash.

'Once we saw the draw we have been trying to structure our games around trying to suit the draw. We are quite fortunate we get to play them at home.”

Arataki coach Marty Bourke says his side will be looking to make up for last week's result.

'It was disappointing to have a loss against Paroa down there as we wanted to put in a good performance to build up for Whakarewarewa.

'With the weekend's loss it highlighted a few areas that we needed to tidy up on and probably putting some of the core duties we were not doing well.”

The game is being played at Puarenga Park, kick off at 2.45pm. If rugby isn't your cup of tea then check out some of the other great event's happening around the Bay.
