A 16-year-old has been flown to Tauranga Hospital after falling from a deck on Motiti Island.

The Trustpower TECT Rescue Helicopter was dispatched to Motiti Island this afternoon after the boy suffered a back injury as a result of the fall.

The Trustpower TECT Rescue Helicopter transported a teeanger with back injuries to Tauranga Hospital this afternoon.

Pilot and base manager Liam Brettkelly says the teenager was in 'significant pain” when they arrived at the scene.

'He was flown to Tauranga Hospital for treatment, the rescue helicopter was used as access to the island is timely and sometimes difficult.”
