Flooding damage around the Bay

The deluge of rain that hit the Bay of Plenty yesterday has left behind a fair bit of damage for people to clean up.

Surface flooding, slips and road wash outs were all reported when the heavens opened up.

The MetService recorded 20mm of rain or more in the span of one hour in Tauranga.

MetService meteorologist Ciaran Doolin says there is a brief respite in the rain today to allow people a chance to clean up and get the last minute washing out of the way before the weekend.

'A low pressure system in the Tasman Sea spreads a strong, moist northerly flow over the country on Saturday.

'Much of the country will be affected by showers or periods of rain.
