Police can confirm a person had died after being struck by a train this morning near Palmerston North shortly before 5am.
Police have closed Railway Road between Roberts Line and the roundabout at Airport Drive while they clear the scene.
It is expected the road will be closed for several hours.
Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death and it will be referred to the Coroner.
No further information is available at this time.
