UPDATED: Hawke's Bay divers named

Police have released the names of the two males who died in a diving incident in Hawke's Bay on Sunday.

Raymond John Cooper, a 45 year old from Whakatu, was the first male to get into difficulty in the water yesterday afternoon.

Roger Francis Nathan, a 44 year old from Waipukurau, entered the water in an attempt to help Mr Cooper.

The matter is now before the Coroner.

EARLIER:

The body of a second diver in Hawke's Bay has been recovered this morning, after an incident near the Pourerere Coast yesterday afternoon.

The body of the first diver who failed to resurface was recovered yesterday.

The Police Dive Squad this morning recovered the body of a second male who entered the water yesterday in an attempt to help the first diver.

The names of the deceased are expected to be released later today.

EARLIER:

Police attended an incident yesterday afternoon where a diver failed to resurface near the Pourerere Coast.

Police and search and rescue volunteers commenced a search and the diver's body was found a couple of hours later.

A person who entered the sea to assist with the search, has also passed away.

Medical treatment was provided however they were pronounced dead at the scene.

Police offer their deepest condolences to the families and friends of these divers.
