Man beaten in unprovoked attack

A man is recovering from serious facial injuries after an unprovoked attacked in a Bay of Plenty town.

The victim was assaulted on Sunday sometime between 5pm and 5.30pm, on the corner of King and James streets in Whakatane.


Police are investigating an attack in a Bay of Plenty town.

Senior Sergeant Yvonne Parker says the offenders were described as two men dressed in blue clothing.

'Police are calling for witnesses to come forward with any information about this unprovoked assault.

'A mother and daughter stopped to speak to the victim on Goulstone Road and ask if he was okay. Police are appealing for them to come forward to assist this inquiry.”

Yvonne says the victim received serious injuries to his face and police are hoping more witnesses can provide them with further information on the offenders or what occurred.

The choice of clothing colour would indicate this is likely to be gang related once again. Only a matter of time before we get a very significant incident in Willow St, Tauranga. The increase in violence and drug use around the toilet block is very apparent to anyone who spends any time at all in this area (Unless you're a council executive worker or CCTV operative apparently)
