The MetService is predicting early heavy rain tomorrow, which is expected to turn to showers in the afternoon.

'A large low pressure system approaches central New Zealand from the Tasman Sea Friday evening, then moves southeast across the country on Saturday,” says the weather organization.

'An associated front moves east across the North Island during Saturday, preceded by strong moist northerlies and followed by another trough overnight Saturday and Sunday.”

The passage of the low and front is expected to bring rain and strong north to northwesterlies to many parts of the North Island and upper South Island.

Showers turning to rain is the prediction for Sunday. This is expected to continue on Monday, before some fine weather moves in on Tuesday.
