Tauranga City to face the big guns

Tauranga City United will be looking to turn their fortune around when they take on Northern Region Football League's premier division leaders Eastern Suburbs at home this weekend.

After a 4-1 thrashing to Central United, Tauranga will be playing for pride when they take to the Links Ave park at 2.45pm tomorrow.

It won't be an easy task for the boys in blue taking on the division. But anything is possible for a team with eight points, who now sit two places behind Onehunga on the points table in 10th spot.

Although they will need a huge effort if they are to topple Eastern Suburbs, who have 20 points, and sit one point ahead of Central United, with 19 points, in second and six points ahead of Glenfield Rovers and Birkenhead United who share third spot with 14 points.

It's been a slow reversal of form for United, who only three weeks ago were trying to stop the haemorrhage after three loses in a row. Since then they've had a 2-2 draw with East Coast Bays.

Kick off for the match is 2.45pm and the United fans will be expecting their boys to play with plenty of passion and guts which the club is known for.

In other matches in the round: Bay Olympic take on Western Springs, East Coast Bays go up against Hamilton Wanderers, Forrest Hill-Milford United play Glenfield Rovers, Melville United face Onehunga Sports and Three Kings United will battle it out against Birkenhead United. Central United have the bye.
