Bay death investigations continue

A police forensic team is at a Bay of Plenty house where a body was found as investigations continue into the unexplained death.

Police and an ESR crew arrived at the Peace St property in Rotorua this morning to begin a forensic scene examination where a person was found dead yesterday at 4.27pm.

The house was cordon off last night and a security officer was placed at the scene to secure the area.

Bay of Plenty District Headquarters Senior Sergeant Malcolm Collins says investigations were continuing at the property today.

Although the identity of the person has yet to be released, neighbours of the property say the family who lived there mainly kept to themselves but appeared to be nice people.

One neighbour, who didn't want to be identified, told SunLive an elderly lady and her nephew stayed at the property.

'She is a lovely lady. It's sad to think someone has passed away over there.”

The woman also says the house had been the target of a home invasion.

'But I think that was before she moved in there.”

Another neighbour who didn't want to be identified also confirmed a home invasion had taken place at the property some time ago, and says it was unrelated to the latest incident.

Detectives were also in the area this morning going door to door making enquiries.
