A police dog put his nose to the pavement and tracked a motorcyclist who allegedly led police on a pursuit through Tauranga.
A pursuit was engaged when a motorcyclist allegedly failed to stop for police.
A police dog unit was used to track a rider of a motorcycle last night. File photo.
During the chase, Western Bay of Plenty road policing manager Senior Sergeant Ian Campion says the rider was seen riding down the wrong way of Takitimu Drive last night.
'He was pursued for about a kilometre to the Takitimu Drive expressway, when the motorcyclist travelled on the incorrect side of Takitimu Drive.
'He abandoned the motorcycle close to the Cambridge Road off ramp,” says Ian.
A police dog tracked the rider from the ditched bike to where he was hiding.
The rider has been arrested and will appear in Tauranga District Court today charged with reckless driving and aggravated failing to stop for police.

If this offence was made a STATUTARY offence , ie no excuse , with a minimum 30 days in prison then very few would take the chance . This would result in fewer Police chases with inherant risks to the general public and Police , plus wasted time investigating chases.
