For the republic of Anzakistan

You won't find Anzakistan on any map, but if Chopper gets his way it'll soon be the mightiest of mighty superpowers the world's ever seen.

Australian comedian Heath Franklin presents ‘Chopper – Live From Anzakistan' at Baycourt's Addison Theatre on May 11.

Aussie comedian Heath Franklin presents ‘Chopper – Live From Anzakistan' at Baycourt on May 11.

It's a sequel to Heath's show Republic of Anzakistan, which is basically Chopper's dream to unite Australia and New Zealand to create a new superpower.

'In Chopper's Anzakistan it's Australians who'd do most of the learning, you guys have the right attitude about a lot of things and we have the natural resources so hopefully we can do a bit of a swap,” says Heath.

For a decade Heath's performed his impersonation of infamous Aussie criminal Mark Brandon ‘Chopper' Read.

With two distinct personalities bouncing about in his head, Heath says he's got a good ‘on/off' switch for Chopper, helped by the fact that he's not an 'unhinged sociopath”.

'The good thing about the Chopper character, if Heath Franklin complains about something everyone's like: ‘Here we go, a reasonable privileged white guy having a whinge'.

'But then all of a sudden Chopper's doing it, an unhinged ex-con, and it's slightly more interesting to listen to I think.”

As part of his pre-live show ritual, he'll break out a Sharpie and draw on Chopper's unmistakeable tattoos. When asked if it'd be easier to just get them tattooed on he replies: 'It's a bit like asking a journalist if they want a pen sown into their hand”.

'It's nice at the end of the day to wash off the tattoos, take off the moustache and just be yourself again. It's good having that point of difference.

'The other thing is, they're such ridiculous tattoos that if I walked around with them everywhere I'd probably get bashed,” says Heath.

Heath Franklin's ‘Chopper – Live From Anzakistan' is on at Baycourt's Addison Theatre on Wednesday, March 11. Tickets cost $40-$45 from Ticketek.

The Weekend Sun has a double pass to give away to one lucky reader who can tell us how what two countries make up the mighty nation of Anzakistan?
