UPDATED: Police have located a man who was believed to be missing near the Kaimai Ranges.

An appeal for information was issued this morning when the man's car was located on State Highway 29, on the Waikato side of the ranges.

Police are appealing for any information about a man who has been reported missing after his car was found on SH29.

Police say the man has now been found safe and well.

"Police have located the man who was the subject of a search in the Kaimai Ranges this morning."

No other information has been released at this stage.

Police are working with Search and Rescue to locate a 58-year-old man suffering from dementia.

'The man's car has been found on State Highway 29 on the Waikato side of the Kaimai Ranges,” says a statement from police.

The man is described as Caucasian, around 6 foot 1, of solid build, with olive skin.

'He is balding, with very short salt and pepper hair. He is believed to be wearing shorts, a t-shirt and walking shoes.

'Police would like to hear from anyone who has seen or picked up a hitchhiker fitting this description, or who has seen a man fitting this description who looks out of place.”

People with information about the missing man are asked to contact Hamilton Police Station on 07 858 6200.
