Meeting to focus on housing crisis

The current housing crisis which is gripping cities around the country, including Tauranga, is a major concern right across the political spectrum.

In a bid to learn more about what is happening here, Labour MPs Phil Twyford, David Parker, Nanaia Mahuta and Rino Tirikatene will be visiting Tauranga tomorrow and meeting with locals.

Housing Spokesperson Phil Twyford says Labour is very concerned about the housing situation in Tauranga.

He says the public meeting at the Wesley Centre on 13th Avenue tomorrow will see the four MP's talking to locals about how the housing crisis is affecting them, along with hearing about real solutions.

'With the cost of housing continuing to rise, increasing homelessness and the imminent sale of Tauranga's state houses,” he elaborates.

'We would like to encourage the people of Tauranga to come along and have their say on this very important issue.”

The public meeting with Labour's Phil Twyford, David Parker, Nanaia Mahuta and Rino Tirikatene on Tauranga's housing crisis will take place at the Wesley Centre, 100 13th Avenue, from 11am.

My young niece just bought a house here ... not sure there is a housing crisis . She would not have done this in auckland.

responding to Jed "not like Auckland though" -it's all relative , the article did say it's gripping cities all over the country 'including' Tauranga.

come along to the meeting and be informed....THERE IS A HOUSING CRISIS....a rental shortage, and the selling of 1200 State Homes is tragic....

I agree about rentals ....

There is certainly a shortage of rentals....agree with that. But, for those wanting to buy a house, it is nowhere near as bad as Auckland. In auckland you can't even sell your house as prices increase so much before you can buy another.
