A 44-year-old man has been arrested and charged with assault following the death of a woman in Mangakino, north-west of Taupo.

Police were notified about the incident at 7.30am and detectives from Taupo CIB have since launched a homicide investigation.

'A 44-year-old man has been arrested and charged with assault and is currently in custody.

A scene examination at a property in Mangakino is ongoing,” says a statement from police.

'The incident appears to be isolated and there is no wider risk to the community.”

People with information relevant to the investigation are asked to contact their local police station.
