Tiki speaks out over charges

Chart topping New Zealand artist Tiki Taane is speaking out after his weekend arrest in Tauranga.

He was arrested at the nightclub Illuminati on Harrington Street early Sunday morning after performing a gig there.

Tiki Taane was arrested early Sunday morning after he sang the lyrics ‘f*** the police' at a gig at Illuminati when police officers were there.

Tiki is charged with disorderly behaviour likely to cause violence.

The arrest followed a police walk through of the night club at about 2.15am – the same time Tiki began singing an American rap song with the lyrics ‘f*** the police'.

Tauranga woman Abigail Donoghue was at the gig when Tiki began singing the song, but says he was not arrested immediately.

Another witness says he was arrested when police confronted him about the lyrics sometime later and 'things got out of hand”.

'I was handcuffed and taken to the cells where I spent the rest of the night,” says Tiki.

'I have been charged with disorderly behaviour, likely to cause violence – for reciting the lyrics to a song by an American rap group called N.W.A.

'This song is a protest song written by Ice-Cube in 1988 and I have often played and sang along to it at my R18 concerts with no trouble at all.”

The 24-year-old promoter of the event was also arrested alongside Taane and was charged with obstruction and resisting arrest.

Tiki's DJ was also arrested, but was later released without charge.

'I have had an excellent rapport with the NZ Police and I intend to keep that relationship positive.

'I'm 34-years-old and this is my first ever offence, and I feel it is unfortunate that one particular police officer became upset with the N.W.A lyrics I sang that night.”

Tiki says it was an 'awesome” night and loves performing gigs in Tauranga.

Gig audience member Abigail Donoghue was shocked when Tiki began singing the N.W.A song as police walked through.

'Nothing much shocks me these days, but that definitely did,” says Abigail.

'I couldn't believe it. My mouth just dropped – but then I had a bit of giggle.”

She says the police officers walked into the nightclub with their 'chests puffed out”.

'The police have their place. They do brilliant work, but it's like trying to stop people from having fun.”

F*** tha Police

Right about now NWA court is in full effect.
Judge Dre presiding in the case of NWA versus the police department.
Prosecuting attourneys are MC Ren Ice Cube and Eazy muthaf***in E.
Order order order. Ice Cube take the muthaf***in stand.
Do you swear to tell the truth the whole truth
and nothin but the truth so help your black ass?

Why don't you tell everybody what the f*** you gotta say?

F*** tha police
Comin straight from the underground
Young nigga got it bad cuz I'm brown
And not the other color so police think
They have the authority to kill a minority

F*** that shit, cuz I ain't tha one
For a punk muthafucka with a badge and a gun
To be beatin on, and throwin in jail
We could go toe to toe in the middle of a cell

F***** with me cuz I'm a teenager
With a little bit of gold and a pager
Searchin my car, lookin for the product
Thinkin every nigga is sellin narcotics

You'd rather see me in the pen
Then me and Lorenzo rollin in the Benzo
Beat tha police outta shape
And when I'm finished, bring the yellow tape
To tape off the scene of the slaughter
Still can't swallow bread and water

I don't know if they fags or what
Search a nigga down and grabbin his nuts
And on the other hand, without a gun they can't get none
But don't let it be a black and a white one
Cuz they slam ya down to the street top
Black police showin out for the white cop

Ice Cube will swarm
On any muthaf***a in a blue uniform
Just cuz I'm from the CPT, punk police are afraid of me
A young nigga on a warpath
And when I'm finished, it's gonna be a bloodbath
Of cops, dyin in LA
Yo Dre, I got somethin to say

F*** the police (4X)

M. C. Ren, will you please give your testimony to the jury about this f***ed up incident.

F*** tha police and Ren said it with authority
because the niggaz on the street is a majority.
A gang, is with whoever I'm stepping
and the motherf***in' weapon
is kept in a stash box, for the so-called law
wishin' Ren was a nigga that they never saw

Lights start flashin behind me
But they're scared of a nigga so they mace me to blind me
But that shit don't work, I just laugh
Because it gives em a hint not to step in my path

To the police I'm sayin f*** you punk
Readin my rights and shit, it's all junk
Pullin out a silly club, so you stand
With a fake assed badge and a gun in your hand

But take off the gun so you can see what's up
And we'll go at it punk, I'ma f*** you up

Make ya think I'm a kick your ass
But drop your gat, and Ren's gonna blast
I'm sneaky as f*** when it comes to crime
But I'm a smoke em now, and not next time

Smoke any muthaf***a that sweats me
Or any assho that threatens me
I'm a sniper with a hell of a scope
Takin out a cop or two, they can't cope with me

The muthaf***in villian that's mad
With potential to get bad as f***
So I'm a turn it around
Put in my clip, yo, and this is the sound
Ya, somethin like that, but it all depends on the size of the gat

Takin out a police would make my day
But a nigga like Ren don't give a f*** to say

F*** the police (4X)

Police, open now. We have a warrant for Eazy-E's arrest.
Get down and put your hands up where I can see em.
Just shut the f*** up and get your muthaf***in ass on the floor.
[huh?]

and tell the jury how you feel abou this bull****.

I'm tired of the muthaf***in jackin
Sweatin my gang while I'm chillin in the shackin
Shining tha light in my face, and for what
Maybe it's because I kick so much butt

I kick ass, or maybe cuz I blast
On a stupid assed nigga when I'm playin with the trigga
Of any Uzi or an AK
Cuz the police always got somethin stupid to say

They put up my picture with silence
Cuz my identity by itself causes violence
The E with the criminal behavior
Yeah, I'm a gansta, but still I got flavor

Without a gun and a badge, what do ya got?
A sucka in a uniform waitin to get shot,
By me, or another nigga.
and with a gat it don't matter if he's smarter or bigger
[MC Ren: Sidle him, kid, he's from the old school, fool]

And as you all know, E's here to rule
Whenever I'm rollin, keep lookin in the mirror
And there's no cue, yo, so I can hear a
Dumb muthaf***a with a gun

And if I'm rollin off the 8, he'll be tha one
That I take out, and then get away
And while I'm drivin off laughin
This is what I'll say

F*** the police (4X)

The jury has found you guilty of bein a redneck,
whitebread, chicken**** muthaf***a.
Wait, that's a lie. That's a goddamn lie.
I want justice! I want justice!
F*** you, you black muthaf***a!>

F*** the police (3X)

We don't smoke marijuana in Muskogee; We don't take our trips on LSD We don't burn our draft cards down on Main Street; We like livin' right, and bein' free. I'm proud to be an Okie from Muskogee, A place where even squares can have a ball We still wave Old Glory down at the courthouse, And white lightnin's still the biggest thrill of all We don't make a party out of lovin'; We like holdin' hands and pitchin' woo; We don't let our hair grow long and shaggy, Like the hippies out in San Francisco do. And I'm proud to be an Okie from Muskogee, A place where even squares can have a ball. We still wave Old Glory down at the courthouse, And white lightnin's still the biggest thrill of all. Leather boots are still in style for manly footwear; Beads and Roman sandals won't be seen. Football's still the roughest thing on campus, And the kids here still respect the college dean. We still wave Old Glory down at the courthouse, In Muskogee, Oklahoma, USA.

Ethnic identity

The main thing that bothers me about this incident (apart from the waste of time for all concerned) is that young brown skinned people in NZ see the need to adopt Black culture from the USA. Having read the lyrics, I can't imagine what kind of idiot would want to sing them. Maybe an illiterate black man who has been severely mistreated by police in a police state. But young polynesians in NZ? I believe we're better than that. Surely there is enough Pacific culture as a vehicle for protest if you feel passionately that you must protest. Picking up someone else's as if it were your own is just silly. We don't have that culture and we don't behave that way. Our cops are not perfect, but they don't generally gun people down or beat them up based on the colour of their skin. This is a provocative piece of posturing and bravado that you'd expect from a teenage adolescent whose testosterone is raging, or who is not the sharpest tool in the box (or possibly both). Performing it and glorifying it does no-one any favours. Nevertheless, in a free society, you should be able to perform it to people who want to hear it. However, that probably doesn't include the Police, and it would be simple good manners (and common sense) not to do it in their presence. The results we have seen were pretty inevitable. You don't need to be an Okie from Muskogee to have sensible values that are appropriate to the culture you live in and not an unimaginative rip-off from someplace else.

Simon will look a bit silly if the guilty by media is found to be innocent by law. I thought it was no comment until the case is over, you would have to ask if Mr Taane will get a fair trial?

SO F* tha Police is a rap song. Common sense tells you not to perform this number when the police are walking through the joint.Still these ****Wits wouldn't have the brains to work that out nor would they care.If 34year old Taane does not have any previous offending I would say in view of his attitude problem he is very lucky or fortunate.
