Strong winds cause power cuts

Power cuts are affecting several Coromandel townships in the north of the peninsula due to the windy weather this morning.

Power company Powerco is currently investigating outages in Amodeo Bay, Colville, Kennedy Bay, Port Charles, Port Jackson and Waikawau Bay.

According to the company's website, electricity is expected to be restored to those townships by 1pm.

Opus has also reported a tree blocking the Tapu-Coroglen Road on the Thames side and Thames-Coromandel District Council contractors are on their way to the scene to clear it.

The council is also asking locals to let them know how the weather is affecting their areas.
