Police investigate shooting

A man is in a serious but stable condition in hospital after receiving gun shot wounds on Friday afternoon.

Police say several gun shots were fired from a car driving outside a Kaitaia address about 4.30pm on Friday.

Northland criminal investigations manager Detective Inspector Kevin Burke says during the incident a 26-year-old old man, who was standing outside, received gunshot wounds.

He was taken to Whangarei Hospital where he remains in a serious but stable condition.

Police are investigating the incident, which they believe may be gang related, and are appealing for any witnesses to come forward.
