Police have arrested and charged 36-year-old Christchurch man for the alleged homicide of 41-year-old Simon Prue, also of Christchurch.
Detectives have worked through the night and will continue the investigation during the weekend to establish the exact circumstances leading up to the assault and death.
Police offer their condolences to Simon's family, who are being supported by the Police and Victim Support.
As the matter is now before the courts, no further comment will be made.
