Hamilton Police have launched a homicide inquiry after a woman died at Waikato Hospital on Thursday morning.
Detective Sergeant William Loughrin says the victim, who has been formally identified as 50-year-old Raewyn Green, was found unconscious at a Pinfold Avenue address on Monday evening.
The woman was taken to Waikato Hospital in a critical condition and died on Thursday morning.
A post mortem was conducted in Auckland which revealed the woman sustained injuries consistent with an assault.
A scene examination has been completed at the Pinfold Avenue address and a number of people known to Ms Green have been spoken to.
The woman's family is being supported by Victim Support through this difficult time.
Detective Sergeant Loughrin says police would like to hear from anyone who had contact with Raewyn in the days and hours leading up to her admission to Waikato Hospital on Monday.
Police are also seeking information from the public about any sightings of a man and woman arguing on Monday afternoon/evening, in and around the Pinfold Avenue area.
