What's On Today? Love for Mauao

Good morning Sunners,

Happy Valentine's Day! Whether you're loved up or single, there's plenty of ways to spread the love today.

Volunteers are invited to show Mount Maunganui's iconic mountain a bit of love this afternoon, with a special Valentine's Day Mauao Clean Up from 2pm-4pm.

Mauao Area Wildlife Trust holds regular clean ups on the mountain, however trust director Julia Graham says today's event helps to clear the rubbish left over the holiday period.

Julia says fishing lines, broken glass and other rubbish left dumped on Mauao is a major issue for the estimated 800 penguins that live on the mountain.

Volunteers are encouraged to meet at Mount Maunganui Surf Club and bring water, food, closed in footwear and sunblock. Gloves and rubbish bags will be provided.
