The van left the road and rolled down a 20m bank near Kereru on Friday before coming to rest on its wheels. It's thought the woman who was the sole occupant, was thrown clear only for the van to roll over the top of her trapping her underneath.
The NZ Fire Service was able to lift the vehicle using specialist equipment, whilst an intensive care paramedic from St John's stabilized and comforted the trapped woman. Upon being safely extracted from underneath the van, the woman was transported by The Hawkes Bay based Lowe Corporation rescue helicopter to the Hawke's Bay Fallen Soldiers' Memorial Hospital for further treatment.
