Two in hospital after crash

Two men remain in Tauranga Hospital's orthopaedic ward following a head on crash on State Highway 29 yesterday morning.

Two cars crashed on the highway between the Poike and Welcome Bay roundabouts, just after 8am on Thursday causing traffic delays during the morning peak hour.

One man was thrown down the bank beside the highway, another was trapped in a vehicle.

A 52-year-old man and a 53-year-old man were in a stable condition in Tauranga Hospital today.

The police investigation into the cause is continuing, says Western Bay of Plenty road policing manager Senior Sergeant Ian Campion.
