Western Bay of Plenty road policing manager Senior Sergeant Ian Campion says two cars were involved in the SH29 crash which occurred at about 8.30am.

'This crash created some traffic congestion this morning but diversions were in place and one direction of flow was maintained past the scene,” says Ian.

'The vehicles have been recovered and diversions were removed at about 10.30am. We would like to thank those people who were inconvenienced this morning for their patience.”

Hours later police were called to attend another vehicle crash, this time on Hewlett Road just west of Aerodrome Roadinvolving a truck and a car.

Ian says the occupants of the car were on their way to Tauranga Airport when the crash occurred at about 11am.

'The occupants of the car, who were the innocent party, weren't injured and were eventually taken to Tauranga Airport by police to catch their flight,” explains Ian.

'In regards to the two crashes, it is still early days and we are continuing our investigation into the causes of both incidents.”
