Day two of love fest gets underway

The crowds are starting to build as day two of the One Love Festival gets underway this afternoon.

Festival goers are enjoying some of the great Kiwi bands taking to the stage at the Tauranga Domain.

The line-up for today include Ardijah through to Che Fu, House of Shem and Katchafire.

SunLive photographer Cameron Avery is down there capturing some of the action.

Yesterday saw a large crowd gather to see bands such as Herbs, Kora and Nesian Mystik.

I live less than a block away from the Domain, am over 60 and in sound health and mind. I am loving the music, loving the crowds and enjoying not having to pay the $ to experience a classy 2 day music festival on my doorstep. If I was bothered, I could close the noise out by shutting windows and doors, turning up the TV. When I go to bed and can't sleep, there is a wonderful invention called earplugs, but this is only 2 days, finished before midnight, didn't start until midday, and brings in much needed revenue to many Tauranga businesses. Get a Life

Love means consideration

This is a great festival and I wouldn't want to see it cancelled in the future, but it was marred for me by the noise level. Not everybody likes Reggae (I do) but whatever you like, it shouldn't be about how loud you can make it. If an event is "at the Domain" it should BE at the Domain. If you live in the Avenues, you shouldn't have it imposing itself at an annoying level. The sound envelope from this was over 15 KM and that should be illegal. Forcing your music taste on others is NOT a loving thing to do. Have a festival and enjoy it, but respect and consider the people who live in the area, just as you would if you had a party at home.

TECT All-Terrain Park

Personally, aside from a few obsessed with adding so-called vibrancy to the CBD, I'd very much prefer to pack my tent, load up the rugrats and mates, and sleep over at TECT All-Terrain Park to enjoy this event. Two days of 'Love Festivities' is surely much better suited to wide open spaces and views over the Bay of Plenty! We've $millions as ratepayers invested in TECT Park, let's use it!

I love your attitude but your reasoning is a little flawed here. You CAN'T just close windows and doors, in Tauranga, in the Summertime...it is way too hot... Earplugs? OK, I guess that would help, but when you can actually FEEL the sound waves and everything in your house is vibrating with the low frequency thump thump, it is fair to say it is intrusive and annoying. Local businesses DO benefit (and that is great) but what about those of us who pay Rates? Are we not entitled to SOME consideration? What you see as a great free concert was an unpleasant experience for me (and I believe I'm not the only one). There has to be a reasonable middle way and it will be found with goodwill and respect on all sides. Events at the Domain should BE in the Domain.

I believe you may have hit a brilliant solution for this. People could camp as you suggest and enjoy the festival, without annoying anyone. We did pay for the TECT park and this would be a very good use of it. Your suggestion gets my vote.

OUT-OF-CONTROL NOISE

How come the noise was still above my TV level, inside my home on Cameron Road between Maitland and Argyll Street Greerton at 10:15 pm Sunday, when the sound restriction was 9:30 pm? Couldn't get through to noise control. This is a HUGE area affected - never again, thanks, Tauranga City Council - no-one should have to endure this all weekend.

All about the bass

We could hear the bass 19km up Omanawa Rd. Wandered what that noise was. Must of been pretty Loud in town then.

it was two days out of the year and was all done and dusted by 10:30 on Sat and 9:30 on Sun. Its a surprise that we get any events here with you bunch of moaners time to get a life and enjoy it and not spend all your time moaning. And Murray do you have shares in the All terrain park as you seem to promote it any chance you get. How would Tauranga benefit from all the people coming to town if the concert was way out in the sticks.

Just because people object to intrusive noise does NOT mean they are "moaners" or need to "get a life". Objections and issues NEED to be discussed openly so they can be resolved. For myself, I'm not anti-festival, I'd just like it to be more considerate. You say "only 2 days" but for some of us (who DO have a life) 2 days taken out of it because of inconsiderate indulgence by others, is unacceptable. As for the TECT park as a venue, people will still come to Tauranga to get to it. I know people who came for the festival and stayed with friends in Tauranga. The actual location is not a problem for people who want to attend it. If the event is all about noise, then TECT park is a great venue for it; everybody wins. Events at the Domain should BE at the Domain.
