A motorist has died after being thrown from a car this morning.

Police say the incident happen about 2.40am this morning. A 23-year-old man lost control of his vehicle while rounding a right hand bend on Tangimoana Road near Ohakea.

The driver was ejected from the vehicle during the accident and died at the scene as a result of his injuries.

Details around the exact cause of the accident will be investigated by the Serious Crash Unit.

The drivers name will not be released until his family have been notified.
