Firefighters are working to secure a vehicle which has gone over a bank near Paengaroa.

Northern Fire Communications shift manager Jaron Phllips says fire crews are securing the vehicle to prevent it going any further down the bank on Mystery Valley Road.

"They are currently setting up extrication equipment.

"I have no information about the person who is trapped. The information we have been given about the bank is that it is 3m-5m down."

Maketu Fire Brigade is at the scene.
