Homebrand milk pulled from shelves

Complaints of Homebrand milk smelling and tasting like chemicals have led to Countdown voluntarily pulling the milk supply from shelves.

Homebrand 2L and 3L blue milk bottles with the expiry date of February 11 has been withdrawn from North Island stores following customer feedback about the taste of the milk.

The supplier, which Countdown would not name, is investigating the cause, but claimed there was no food safety risk, says Countdown spokesperson Keith Cowden-Brown.

Stuff.co.nz reports, customers who have bought a bottle with the best before date of February 11 are able to return it back to Countdown for a full refund and replacement.

The milk withdrawal is the latest in a series of food products that have been removed from New Zealand shelves.

Last year, smoked chicken was withdrawn following fears it was not cooked properly.

Shortly after this, Beehive Champagne Ham was pulled from shelves due to a possible listeria contamination.

This all followed the frozen berry recall, which saw Fruzio 1kg bags of strawberries, blackberries and mixed berries, and 500g mixed berry bags, were recalled after being linked to the hepatitis A virus.

Milk is the best & for those about to argue about convenience at least you don't have to return it , but best of all no support to the AUSTRALIAN food chain.

So the supplier is investigating what was actually in it, yet the Countdown spokesperson insists there is no safety risk. Do Countdown employ psychics?

As written in the article, it was the supplier that had said there was no food safety risk, the Countdown spokesman only reiterated what the supplier had said.
