New trustees for Creative Tauranga

Creative Tauranga plans to establish a new governance structure to better serve the local artistic and cultural sectors.

This new governance structure comes after an independent strategic review of the creative charitable trust which was undertaken during November of last year.

Following a review of the Trust Deed, an appointment panel will now be created to assist with choosing new trustees.

The five-person panel includes Creative Tauranga chair Marcus Wilkins, an elected representative from both the Tauranga City and Western Bay of Plenty District council, plus one representative from the arts sector and one community representative.

Creative Tauranga is now seeking nominations and expressions of interest for an art representative and a community representative.

'The art sector representative will be someone with expertise in any genre of arts, with strong connections to the WBOP arts and culture sector,” says chair Marcus Wilkins.

'The community representative will be of known and respected standing in the community, preferably with local iwi connection, but does not need to be an artist.”

The group will meet to agree the process for appointing new trustees and then again to review trustee applications and make recommendations to the trustees.

While Creative Tauranga will be advertising for the governance representatives later in February.

'We're looking forward to getting new trustees to help set a new strategic direction for the organization. The results from our strategic review undertaken last year were very helpful in setting the new direction.”

Nominations for the Arts and Community representatives close 12pm on Tuesday, February 9. For more information or to apply visit Creative Tauranga's website at: www.creativetauranga.org.nz

between the lines there is a story, was this new direction mooted before our previous "creative director" resigned?, and if so what sort of severance payment did she receive to resign?, I think we may know see some understanding from the community at large, and not just one persons ego stroking, open governance can only be a good thing and hopefully this can seep into the many other ratepayer funded entities, good stuff!!!

We need information

As the big funders of creative tauranga the ratepayers need to be kept informed about all aspects of this organisation. Seldom does Council seem to ask the hard questions. Cr Catherine Stewart did ask a tough question a while ago but we don't seem to have had an answer. Good news or bad news the truth should always be paramount. Meantime all the best to the new trustees.
