Armed robbery at Tauranga pub

UPDATED 1.24PM: Police are investigating an armed robbery at an Irish pub in Tauranga this afternoon.

Police officers can be seen at McSwiggans Irish Pub on Cambridge Road speaking with witnesses to the incident.

Bay of Plenty Police communications manager Kim Perks says police are currently looking for one offender in relation to the matter.

People with information about the robbery, and haven't spoken to police, can report information to Tauranga Police on 07 577 4300.

Alternatively, information can be left anonymously via the Crimestoppers 0800 555 111 line.

Reports are emerging of a number of police being seen on Cambridge Road, near the Cambridge Heights shops.

It's unclear what has happened but a caller to the 0800 SUNLIVE news hotline says several police units can be seen in the area near McSwiggans Irish Pub.

A SunLive reader reports that police are looking for someone following an aggravated robbery at the pub.

This has not been confirmed by police.

People are advised to stay away from the area until police ascertain what has happened.

perp probably got robbed of his money by the pokies so robbed the pub to get it back
