Flag choices to fly on bridge

The Auckland Harbour Bridge is one of 250 sites around the country that will display the current flag choices.

Ministers Bill English and Simon Bridges have announced that the proposed alternative Silver Fern (Black, White and Blue) flag will fly alongside the current New Zealand flag on the Auckland Harbour Bridge from Friday.

The current flag choices will be displayed around New Zealand.

The Auckland Harbour Bridge will be the latest in over 250 sites around the country that have the alternative flag on-loan from the Flag Consideration Project to display beside the current flag, says Deputy Prime Minister Bill English.

'Having the two flags flying side by side around New Zealand will help people compare the designs before making a decision in the final flag referendum, which runs from March 3 to March 24.”

Transport Minister Simon Bridges says he approved the request from the Flag Consideration Project to fly the alternative flag on the Auckland Harbour Bridge alongside the current flag from January 22 to March 24.

'The proposed alternative flag will be flown alongside the current flag each day on the Auckland Harbour Bridge until the end of the referendum period, except for Waitangi Day when the current flag will be flown alongside the Tino Rangatiratanga flag.”

waste

Yeah, that's right politicians, waste as much as our tax payers money as you can. Maybe you would feel differently if you earned it instead of just got it given to you regardless of your performance.

Have we not had enough time to compare??Sounds like desperation from John Key trying to stop the waste of $26 million of taxpayers money.I dont go to Auckland anyway.

DISGUSTED

I am disgusted that an UNOFFICIAL flag is allowed to fly along side OUR flag....There is to be the two flying outside Tauranga Hire in 15th Ave as well....

The most hideous bastardisation of a fern...it is offensive to the eye

I think it is a good idea as the more I see of it the more it grows on me.

Well from the comments below i guess these were people who didnt vote or didnt vote for this choice of flag at all. I think its a great idea and i too think the flag is perfect. So what if people choose to fly this flag, they must feel the same as i do ?

Haven't we more important things to concern us in these islands?

The Flag

Great decision! To see the three completely different flag flying on the one site at the same time will be very good. The decision by the Poms to further limit our ability to visit UK proves that they have no loyalty to us. To want to maintain the connection is very strange. When mother cuts the apron strings (which she did long ago) it's definitely time to leave home!

Desperation maybe?

Any chance that in the face of somewhat overall negative opinion around changing the flag at all, let alone to this one, that Mr Key is really pushing this on us by instructing (or maybe.."suggesting in an official capacity") various departments to fly this unnoficial flag at various sites in an attempt to gain support?. I reckon even though I am not a fan, that the Tino Rangatiratanga flag has more reason to be flown alongside our official national flag than this one!
