Platinum Pacific Reclad Mount Maunganui remains at the top of the BOP Cup leader board and retains its Baywide unbeaten record after defeating Ultimate Motor Group Te Puke at the Te Puke Domain at the weekend.
Batting first, the defending BOP Cup titleholders posted a solid total of 252/9 from their 50 overs.
Mount skipper Daniel Hill, who batted down the order, top scored with an unbeaten 47. Northern Knights representative Jason Donnelly (33) Sam Blake (32) Blair Parlane (31) and Khan Greig (26) all made useful contributions.
The Te Puke bowlers toiled away to take nine wickets with Sean Gibson and Jared Carter taking three wickets apiece.
While the home side made a valiant attempt for victory, they came up short when removed for 184.
Reserve grade regular Russell Williams posted his side's top score of 40 with Jared Carter (38) and Sean Gibson (34) chipping in – with Chris Atkinson the pick of the Mount bowling attack returning figures of 3/33.
There was plenty of drama at the Tauranga Domain where long-time Baywide heavyweight, Element IMF Cadets, hosted Rotorua Boys' High School.
The students took first use of the batting strip and were dismissed for a modest 124 with Bay age group rep Shaquille Graham showing some solid resistance, with his side's top score of 54 not out.
Matthew Drake, who was primarily known as a batsmen, continued his re-emergence into the bowling ranks with four wickets for 36 runs with Campbell Wilson and club newcomer Morgan Bidois grabbing two wickets apiece.
The use of spin bowler Cody Fell (3/21) to open the Rotorua Boys' bowling attack paid immediate dividends with Cadets in desperate trouble at 15/4. However, Cadets keeper Richard Rice (54no) and Nick Earl (35no) took their team home to a four wicket victory.
Eves Realty Greerton posted a 10-wicket victory against BOP Indians. After the visitors removed the home side for 109, Greerton cruised home to take the win points on offer, without losing a wicket.
Veteran Greerton bowler Murray Jarvis dominated the match, taking a remarkable 7/16, then carrying his bat with an unbeaten 53 runs.
Tauranga Boys' College retained the BOP Cricket challenge shield, defeating East Bay United in a match that went down to the last over. After Tauranga Boys' set a large target of 234, the Eastern Bay visitors made a valiant attempt for victory. However, after James Mitchell was dismissed for 93, the East Bay United challenge slowed with the side all out for 222 just 11 runs short of victory.
Dawson Insurance Eastern Pirates took the maximum points from iTCo Central in a rain-shortened match. After Central posted 169, Eastern Pirates got through to 129/4 when rain stopped play at the 25 over mark.
