The woman was taken to Tauranga Hospital, while people in the other vehicle suffered minor injuries.

The Sunday evening crash was the most serious of a 'disappointing” nine crashes in the Western Bay of Plenty over the weekend.

According to police, there were two alcohol-related crashes, while the driver of a vehicle involved in an incident in Maketu was taken to hospital for observation:

At the time of writing, Tauranga Hospital were unable to comment on the condition of the 81-year-old woman.
