Raglan recovery operation

Waikato Police said a search for a missing swimmer lost off the coast of Raglan will resume tomorrow in line with the tides.

Sergeant Phil Bell of the Waikato Police Search and Rescue Squad says the joint agency search for 17-year-old Hamilton man, Cory Joseph EDGECOMBE LILLEY will continue today.

'In situations such as this we are governed by the tides and we are looking to utilise fixed wing and rotary aircraft to assist in what is now considered a search and recovery operation.

'Police have been working closely with the family, some of whom continued their own search today. In the interim Police would like to recommend to people who aren't considered to be good swimmers to consider taking lessons before entering swimming in the ocean.”

Mr Bell says though yesterday's incident occurred before the start of the summer holiday season Police always recommended people swim between the flags and in areas patrolled by lifeguards to reduce the risk.
