Fatigue possible cause of crash

Preliminary investigations into a crash which partially blocked a section of State Highway 2 this morning show fatigue may have been a factor.

Emergency services were called to a single vehicle crash on State Highway 2, near Bruce Road, Papamoa just before 10am.

Western Bay of Plenty road policing manager Senior Sergeant Ian Campion says the vehicle was travelling from Baypark towards Papamoa when it collided with the centre wire barrier.

He says the driver suffered minor injuries and the crash blocked the right hand lane for a short while.

'Preliminary investigations are that fatigue may have been a factor,” he says.

'It's really important that when drivers are travelling long distances that they make sure they get regular breaks.”

Ian suggests that if people are feeling tired, that they pull over and stop, have a bit of food or a nana nap.

'Or even delay your trip until you have had a decent night's sleep,” adds Ian.
