WaiBop lose to Hawke’s Bay

WaiBOP United have gone down 1-0 to Hawke's Bay United thanks to a 84th minute winner from substitute Khair Jones tonight.

It's the second time in three weeks the blue and red have come away with a loss in the dying minutes of the match. Wellington did the same thing in round one of the ASB Premiership.

An 84th minute screamer from Hawke's Bay United substitute Khair Jones has given visitors Hawkes Bay United a 1-0 victory in Thursday night's ASB Premiership match against WaiBOP United at Owen Delany Park, Taupo.

Both sides had periods of dominance at Owen Delany Park, Taupo in an open, end-to-end encounter that was always going to be settled by either a mistake or a moment of brilliance.

The moment came for the visitors but both sides had good chances in a game in which the keepers were both busy and, and times, brilliant.

Both substitutes, Stephen Hoyle and Marc Evans, proved to be a handful after coming on, with Evans' tireless running creating WaiBOP United's best opportunity for Federico Marquez, who had his shot tipped wide by Hawke's Bay custodian, Josh Hill.

At the other end, Zac Speedy and his back four were kept busy by the impressive work rate of Hamish Watson and Sam Mason-Smith.

Hawke's Bay United now move level on points with ASB Premiership leaders, Auckland City, while WaiBOP United stay in the mid-table log-jam.
