Replacement festival also cancelled

The event organised to replace the cancelled McLaren Valley Music and Arts Festival has also been pulled by the organisers.

The new version of the festival, that was originally set for McLaren Falls Park next January, was due to take place at Auckland's Vector Arena, with performances lined up from Disclosure and The Flaming Lips among others.

After being moved from the Bay of Plenty in mid-October due to a break-down in negotiations with residents in the McLaren Falls area, Auckland was described as 'the best solution given the timeframe”.

However, the re-planned and re-branded Echo Festival that was scheduled for January 11 and 12 has also bitten the dust, with slow ticket sales being blamed for the cancellation.

Festival director Paxton Talbot said the cancellation has come after much consideration of all of their options.

'Despite this world class line-up of artists, and a strong promotional campaign and apparent public support, the event simply hasn't had sufficient ticket sales to date to make the festival viable,” he says.

'We have today made the hugely difficult decision to cancel the event.

'It would not be fair on the bands, the suppliers or the audience if we were to continue pursuing the project."

Full refunds will be made to all ticket holders, with details available at: www.echofestival.co.nz
