Drivers warned to slow down

Waihi Police are asking motorists to slow down in response to road works currently in place throughout the region.

Senior Constable Wayne Harper is reminding people to stick to the speed limit and obey road signs.

In his report on Gold FM's Facebook page, Wayne says it's been a good week so far, with a low incidence of crime.

'If you see something, do something,” he says. 'If you think it's a bit dodgy, ring it in - let us make that decision.”

This week is also White Ribbon Week, with the theme: Respectful relationships between men and women.

Christmas is coming and it can be a stressful time of year for some families, says Wayne.

'Let's take it easy,” he says. 'Let's protect the ones we love.

'You should be thinking about how you're going to get home. Remember the lower drink driving levels at this time of the year, and we'll be out enforcing that.”

Police have promised they will be out and about keeping an eye on things over the holiday period.

People who see suspicious behaviour are asked to report it to their nearest police station.

Alternatively, information can be left anonymously via Crimestoppers on: 0800 555 111.
