Power out after Paengaroa crash

Power is out to homes in Maketu and Paengaroa after a car crashed into a power pole this morning.

Contractors are working to restore the supply and hope to have power back on around 9.30am.

Emergency services were called to the scene of the crash on State Highway 2, near the intersection of Wilson Road North, around 5.20am.

A Northern Fire Communications spokesperson says there was no one trapped in the vehicle.

'The person (involved in the crash) was status three, which is pretty good for a crash like this.”

Status three means that the person suffered moderate injuries.

Motorists are being advised to drive carefully in the area.

The cause of the crash is being investigated by police.

something had to be done about power poles jumping out in front of motorists. and drivers need to concentrate on driving on the road.
