Power lines were seen sparking, before an explosion was heard in the area. The power then went out, a reporter who attended the crash told SunLive.

The cause of the crash is under investigation and it's understood one person was taken to Tauranga Hospital.

The road was closed as emergency services worked to clear the scene and contractors worked to restore power to the area.

... how drivers manage to hit poles when there is plenty of space between them. Is there something mesmerising about poles?

Speed and alcohol?

Or maybe driver distraction. Seems to about sum up most of the accidents unless it was a medical event.

This part of Kaitemako Road is popular with hoons. Some will see that Karma's a "lady dog"....

How Presumptuous

and judgemental you are! I can assure you that the person involved was neither hooning nor drinking and is one of the most sensible hard working young people I know. An accident pure and simple

How dare you

jump to conclusions about the driver of this car. The driver was coming back from work , no drinking or txting was involved, a pure accident. The person who mentioned Karma - I hope that you never have to witness your daughter lying on the side of the road - all your comments are disrespectful and rude - if you cant saying anything nice don't say anything at all thank you redlindyloo for your kind comment --
